The insect world is well in fashion at the moment with the likes of butterfly wing buildings, drones that swarm and foot-long insects capable of communicating wirelessly and performing group tasks that crawl all over a picnic and put you off your sandwiches. Proper scary stuff.
Well here is a new thing, and I think it's one step closer to my own personal Spiderman web spinner.

No Mr Bond, I expect you to die....

Obviously a bit big to strap to my arm and just a bit slow at 10mm a second, the 3D cocooner by Festo is "a vertically arranged tripod and robotic spinneret (the organ through which spiders, silkworms, and caterpillars produce and spin their thread), the 3D Cocooner’s fiberglass resin is hardened in mid-air via an attached UV-curing light." Obviously you should keep it in the bath when not in use.

Sea Kayakers rescue stranded dolphin on Scottish Island

These kayakers are total heroes - watch this video of them rescuing a dolphin that was tangled in seaweed on the Isle of Barra in Scotland.

Hot Cross Done!

CFS customer Gateguards have completed the 20m high Celtic Cross Monument. Located at the border of Devon & Cornwall near Saltash at a cost of £500,000.
The finish is cold cast resin copper with details of gold leaf, with carbon fibre also used in the construction.

A conservation group has objected to a 15ft tall fibreglass cockerel being planned for the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square.
One objector said "I do wonder what Nelson’s reaction would have been after returning home from battle only to be greeted by the French emblem standing proudly in the centre of London."
Although the artist claims that "the cockerel is a symbol for regeneration, awakening and strength".
